For conducting aerial and light detection and ranging (LIDAR) data survey Chandigarh administration has lifted off tenders to hire firms or
geographic information system (GIS) mapping of properties and other infrastructure.
This project has given assent by the union government of India, which will bring complete digitization in keeping records of property and other infrastructure.
This project envelopes, GIS mapping of all buildings- housing, commercial, industrial, learning, health care, central government, state government, railway assets, sacred, recreational -- and public services such as water treatment plants, water pumping stations, sewage treatment plant and solid waste management plant.
Communication infrastructure, transportation brackets like- telephone exchange, cell towers and WiFi hotspots -- slums, unoccupied land, green areas, farming land, rural area and eco-sensitive zone will also be mapped. Also, the entire network of electricity will also be mapped. Once, done the GIS map will be shared with all the city planning agencies.
Genuinely, this execution will provide improved planning and maintain quality infrastructure of the city. GIS will help in preserving digital records of all properties counting land ownership, approved building plans etc. This installation will put an end to illegitimate land acquisition as it has come along with a detection mechanism. Complete details of land and property possession will outs outlawed property trading.
Presently, Chandigarh doesn’t obtain any effective operating tool to daunt plan violation. For, city is going through hefty amount of residential/commercial building violation. As over the years, residents have made alteration in their properties in violation of real estate rules.
Showing norms thumbs down, residents of sectors 20, 21, 22 and 23 have expanded their lawns and car parking areas by bulldozing periphery walls and using public land for private use.
Many residents have also widened to rear courtyards of houses by developing small store rooms or servant quarters.
